Dynamics of breast cancer morbidity and mortality in the Republic of Tajikistan in 2016-2023

Abstract

Aim. To analyze the incidence and mortality from breast cancer for the period 2016-2023 in the Republic of Tajikistan.

Materials and methods. The data of the form No. 7 submitted by the Center for Medical Statistics and Information of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2016-2023 and the reporting data to the departments of Mammology and Reconstructive Surgery of the State Scientific Research Center of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Republic of Tajikistan have been studied. The data on morbidity and mortality, the degree of prevalence by age and stages were studied.

Results. In the Republic of Tajikistan, the incidence of breast cancer is also increasing annually, especially over the past two years (compared to 2016-2021, 1.5-1.7 times more breast cancer patients were identified in 2022-2023). Mortality from breast cancer in the republic decreased by 0.8-0.9 times in 2022-2023 compared to previous years. 63-75.3% of cases are detected in stage I-II, 10.3–20.9% in stage III, and 10.3-17.6% in stage IV. There is a tendency towards the “rejuvenation” of breast cancer in the Republic of Tajikistan.

Conclusion. The incidence and mortality from breast cancer in the Republic of Tajikistan, as in other countries of the world, is growing dynamically every year. Despite the high incidence rates, mortality is decreasing from year to year. As in all countries of the world, there is a tendency towards the “rejuvenation” of breast cancer in our republic.
